Shenandoah National Park is just over 70 miles from our Nation’s Capital, and is a favorite for the outdoor enthusiast There are scenic drives, cascading waterfalls, hiking, biking, spectacular vistas, tranquil hollows and an abundance of wildlife. Whether you want to take an all day drive down the Skyline Drive or are ready for some back-country camping along the Appalachian Train, this park has everything for everyone..
Professional landscape photographer Scott Turnmeyer calls Shenandoah National Park home, only living a few miles from the quiet and peaceful entrance in Front Royal, VA. Scott has spent countless hours in the park photographing sunrises, sunsets, waterfalls, wildlife and so much more. He knows the lay of the land, the best photo spots, how the weather moves and changes, timing of the sun, the moon and so much more. He now offers his experience and guidance to everyone with the photography passion or interest.
Scott offers multiple photography workshops within Shenandoah National Park each year. Everything from the long and more strenuous multi-mile hikes to the shoot location, to the sunsets or sunrises at only the best overlooks in the park. Scott has it all planned out and something for everyone. Each workshop consists of a different experience, and with weather, seasons and wildlife changes, no two workshops are ever the same. Each workshop has CPR certified guides, and he and his team are permitted to run tours within the Shenandoah National Park. Scott is there the entire time to help you with composition, camera settings, light painting (night workshops) and much more. He is happy to share his expertise to help you get amazing photos.
This workshop, “Waterfall Photography Workshop in the Shenandoah National Park (4hr hike)”, is great for those that want to get up close and personal with the waterfalls and have no issues with a moderate hike. Scott will take you to the best spot for the given time of year and weather scenario to get some fantastic shots. There will be an easy 1 mile walk into the location where we will be working. Once everyone has good control of their settings we head into the more moderate (sometimes slippery) area of the trails where you will get phenomenal up close and personal waterfall photographs. Moderate elevation change, and rated as moderate in alltrails.com. Once done, we take the 1 mile trek back out on the same easy path. Total expected distance of the full trip would be ~4 miles. This workshop is great for anyone wanting to get great mountain waterfalls and have a love of getting into the trails and climbing on the rocks.
